Privacy Notice
Last updated: 9 August 2026
1. Who we are
StudyGlow is operated by Zoe jean Morrow, a sole trader. Zoe jean Morrow is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice, which means we decide why and how your personal data is processed.
2. Personal data we collect
- Account data — email address, login credentials (stored hashed), display name, and, if you sign in with Google, the basic profile information Google returns.
- Study content — assignments, subjects, due dates, tasks, focus sessions, streaks, points, and rewards you create in the app.
- AI tutor content — the homework questions you submit and the explanations returned.
- Preferences — theme and app settings.
- Technical and usage data — IP address, device and browser identifiers, log data, and basic usage telemetry.
- Support messages — anything you send us when asking for help.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis
- Creating and managing your account, and providing the checklist, timer, streaks, calendar, and AI tutor features — performance of our contract with you.
- Managing your Premium subscription and entitlements — performance of our contract with you.
- Security, abuse detection, and fraud prevention — legitimate interests in keeping the Service safe.
- Improving and debugging the product using aggregated or minimal usage data — legitimate interests.
- Customer support — performance of our contract and legitimate interests.
- Optional marketing emails — consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Keeping records we are legally required to keep — legal obligation.
4. Who we share data with
- Service providers / subprocessors — our hosting and database provider, and the AI provider that generates tutor explanations. They process data on our instructions only.
- Paddle.com — our Merchant of Record for the sale of Premium. Paddle handles payments, subscription management, tax compliance, invoicing, and billing support, and processes the personal data necessary for those purposes.
- Professional advisers — legal and accounting advisers where necessary.
- Authorities — where we are required to disclose by law.
We do not sell your personal data.
5. International transfers
Some of our providers operate outside the UK and EEA. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as UK/EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
6. Retention
We keep your account and study data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except where we must retain records (for example, transaction records for tax purposes) for longer. Logs and technical data are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict or object to processing, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You can also complain to your local data protection supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office). Contact us through the support channel in the app and we will respond within one month.
8. Security
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, hashed credentials, row-level access controls so you can only read your own records, and restricted administrative access. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep risk low.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
StudyGlow uses essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. These are required for the app to work. If we introduce analytics or marketing cookies in future, we will ask for your consent first and provide a way to manage your preferences.
10. Children
StudyGlow is designed for students. If you are below the age of digital consent where you live, please use StudyGlow with a parent or guardian's involvement.
11. Changes and contact
We will update this notice if our practices change and will revise the date above. For any privacy question, contact Zoe jean Morrow through the support channel listed in the app.
